My 2016 Review

It’s officially the last day of 2016, and I have no idea how we are here already! A lot of big changes took place this past year and I felt there was no better way to ring in the new year than to reflect on on my favorite parts from the past 12 months!

Obviously, the biggest impact that occurred this year was the love of my life asking me to marry him! WHAT! I’ve pretty much dreamed about this day since the very first time we exchanged “I love you’s” and it still felt surreal! The effort he put into making sure my family was there just really blew me away!

The next change was moving out of my very first apartment! And while it may not seem like that big of a deal, I was actually pretty emotional as I got closer and closer to moving day. That apartment was the very first place I ever had to myself & will always have a soft spot for it! But I’m excited for the adventure my new place will bring me & more importantly the 10 minute commute to work that gives me extra time to sleep in!

Two big/important moments of 2016 were the arrival of my 2 new nephews Jackson & Shane! The love that comes over me when new family members join the team can not be matched! Their sweet personalities are shining through already and it makes me excited for more years to come!

One of my New Years resolutions for 2016 was to go on more adventures/travel more. While I didn’t get to travel as much as I planned, Joey & I definitely put a lot more effort into how we spent our free time! From backseat picnics by the lake, spending the day in sunflower fields, and last minute trips back to Longwood University to retrace our steps to where we first met, we have built some pretty great memories with each other in the last year!

2017 has a lot to live up to, but it’s the year I hopefully get to marry my best friend, welcome a new little cousin, and another chance to live my life the best way I can! Get excited for the new year y’all!

16 goals for 2016!

I’ve decided that 2016 will be a year dedicated to making myself the best I can be! I want to focus on being healthier, more productive, more creative, and really just pushing myself out of the box! So to keep up with myself this year, I’ve decided to make a list of 16 goals I plan to accomplish!  I feel that if I write it down on my public page, it will be an extra boost to make sure sure I keep up with them all!

  1. Keep a journal each day to make a note of something great that happened and a learning experience to grow from.
  2. Spend less, save more! My goal this year is to save as much as I can. This means eating out less, staying in more, less material purchases, & getting a little more creative with date night!
  3. Be more active! I’m not going to lie, since moving to Charlottesville I’ve fallen out of my workout routine! My goal is to create a workout plan for each month (day by day) to make sure I don’t get bored and fall off again!
  4. BE CREATIVE! I plan on finding more inspiration for crafts, art, braids, decor, and style this year. I find that sometimes I can do things repetitively and I want to really push myself to create something new each week!
  5. Organization. Okay… in general I am a pretty organized person, but when it comes to my apartment I can sometimes get pretty lazy. My goal this year is to lay out a plan to keep it clean 24/7. This means laundry & cleaning schedules, making my bed every morning, and doing dishes immediately (my biggest fault).
  6. Getting up with the sun! This one actually won’t be that difficult for me since I am naturally an early riser. But I think it’s important to wake up with the sun and get things accomplished earlier in the day. That way it doesn’t feel like there was wasted time or I spent an entire day running errands.
  7. Taking more trips! I just don’t see my friends and family as much as I would like. I have cousins all over the place and just want to visit them as much as possible. Not to mention my bother & sister-in-law are expecting my little nephew in 1 week & they live across the country, so that trip is a must! Also, I’m lucky to have college friends so close and need to take advantage of it!
  8. Sending cards. Whether it be to say thank you, for an event, or just because, I want to let those around me know how much they mean to me more often!
  9. Cook 2 NEW meals each week. We’ve all been there where we get off of work and just say, “Spaghetti it is!” It’s quick, easy, and we know it will taste good. But I really want to make meals that will make me feel like I really took initiative. I’ve been really into vegan meals recently so hopefully I can find a few that I love!
  10. SAY YES! Say yes to new activities and possibilities. It is so easy to get comfortable in the life you currently live but I don’t want to miss out on something that could make a huge difference in how I see the world.
  11. SAY NO! Say no to people and actions that could steer you in the wrong direction and away from life long goals.
  12. Get to know my new city! To be honest I lived in Great Bridge for 23 years and only know how to get to like…8 places tops. I don’t want that to be the same situation here. I want to venture out more. Each week I want to discover a new place.
  13. Watch less TV. Right now I actually don’t have cable, it was a personal choice when I moved that I think has actually been a blessing. I don’t personally take on the stress of the reality show personalities and their issues anymore (Real Housewives anyone…). But Netflix has still been a constant and I’d like it to be less. It takes up so much time that I’d rather use to read or play a game with my boyfriend. However, The Bachelor will be returning soon and that is something I REFUSE to give up!
  14. Go to church more often. This one has been a struggle for me only because I usually work on Sunday mornings. I was telling my mom about this and she reminded me that I can always go on Saturday nights, which for some reason completely slipped my mind! Now I just have to find a Catholic Church in my area that I really connect with!
  15. Pack a lunch everyday. This is a great way to eat healthier, save money, and get in a routine. All wonderful things! I don’t know about y’all, but I always feel more responsible when I pack a lunch for work, like I really have my life together (hahaha).
  16. BE POSITIVE. This is going to be a year where I believe in everything I do. No more doubting what I am capable to accomplish.

2015, A New Start!

Here we are, the day before the new year! It’s crazy to think how fast 2014 went and it makes me a tad bit sad, but all that more excited to make this next year the best one yet! So obviously, with a new year comes all the new years resolutions and promises we make to hopefully make a change in our life. But honestly, how many of us actually stick to these goals? And if you’re anything at all like me, your resolutions are very broad, with no backing to really stick too…. Be healthier, workout more, etc. This year, it WILL be different!

This year I’ve chosen a few resolutions that all go along with each other. I have decided to start living a cleaner, active, more productive life. You can’t have one of these without the other! So, now I’m going to go a little more in detail with what I plan to do for each!

1.) A Cleaner Lifestyle!

So what I basically plan to do with this step is learn how to cook. I want to start making my own real meals! To keep it straight with you all, unless it just involves boiling water, I have no idea how to cook. I can bake anything, but cooking is not a top skill for me! I want to start making healthy, clean, amazing meals from scratch to really just take control of my inner self! I will be enlisting the help from my new book, ONE POT, which I received for christmas from my parents! I really suggest you all pick up a copy and try it for yourself! I seriously can’t wait to start!

2.) Keeping Active!

I will be the first to admit that ever since I left college and didn’t have the perfect gym right around the corner from my apartment, I’ve let myself go in terms of physical fitness! I do get random moments where all I want to do is run but eventually that goes away. This year, I want to try doing something different everything week. Whether it be beating my running time, yoga, going to a pure barre class, or spin class! And I feel like now that I’ve shared this on my blog, I have no excuse but to keep it up! Which leads me to my next goal…

3.) Productivity Is Key!

With these changes, I want to chronicle them as I go. I feel like it would be a great way for me to make sure I keep up with these goals I set for myself, but also inspire you all to do the same! I plan on posting “My Meal of the Week” as long as a “Making Moves” post to share how I’m keeping active!
